Why I’m A Wedding Photographer?

Day Two of Alex Beadon’s ‘The Feel Good Blogging Challenge’

What’s the story behind why you do what you do?

Once upon a time, I wanted to be an accountant (I know, what the?) and I passed two years of accountancy exams at college but I quit in the third year…

Life as an accountant would not have suited my personality because it is a serious role & I’m not a serious person.  It would have been really stressful to carry on with the exams for another five years with my full time finance job – it just wasn’t me.  I am a free spirit, a creative, sociable person who doesn’t like being stuck indoors studying all the time.

People often tell me that they couldn’t take the pressure of being a wedding photographer.  I was nervous at my first couple of weddings but now when I get to the venue and start shooting, I feel the most confident person in the world, laugh with guests, interact with kids, really enjoy the day & it doesn’t feel like pressure to me.

There are deadlines to finish projects constantly but I am in control of my work load & I’m not being micro managed.  I have to get to wedding venues all over the place & on time but I love driving, have a trusty sat nav and can listen to my music on the way. It is such a brilliant job to have & I absolutely love it.

I am 100% sure that if I was an accountant today, I would not be typing ‘I Love My Job’ on a blog…. there would be no blog, no Click Click Flash photography business, no amazing clients, yes I would still be a keen amateur photographer but I would not have the professional portfolio which I have built up over the past four years.

So to answer the question ‘Why do I do what I do?’  The answer is simple, because I LOVE IT!!!

Oh & middle fingers up to stress : )
